Lesson # 209 – Cell Phones and Seat Belts
The Phone call being made to the parents of the kids in this SUV will not be pleasant. The young driver was driving down this hill while sending a text message to a friend. The passenger was not wearing a seat belt and in a collision was thrown face-first into the windshield. Both these kids will live but their injuries are substantial. For what? A text message?
Bovis Lend Lease has a policy prohibiting cell phone use when operating a vehicle. We encourage all of our Contractors and Suppliers to adopt the same policy. Here's a thought to dial up the next time you are considering talking on the phone while driving: Cell phone use was listed as the primary or secondary cause of 1,357 crashes just in Illinois last year, resulting in eight fatalities and 351 injuries, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. You don’t want to end up as just another statistic.
Lastly – Seatbelt use is the LAW, always buckle up. These are all things we know; now we simply need to follow through and do them to stay safe.
